Today, we slept in a little bit due to having most of the day to explore for ourselves. Also, since it’s Wednesday, we had to watch the new episode of Kenobi :)
In a strange twist of events, Brandon was the more awake of the two of us, and the first to get out of bed today. I did get up shortly after, but I was also very comfortable where I was. We ate a small breakfast of toast with chocolate cream (Nutella without the branding) and went back downstairs to watch Kenobi. The TV and sound system on the bottom floor where we are staying are wonderful! We were able to log in to our Disney+ account to access the episode. I will spoil nothing for those of you who haven’t watched it yet other than to say it was a great episode :) Once Kenobi was done, we hopped on the Straßenbahn and headed into Hattingen for a little while. The objective today was to find a Hattingen postcard, which we did! We bought a few so we can send them to our parents, so writing those up and getting them sent out will be on the agenda in the next couple days. After we found the postcards, we were both getting a little hungry for lunch, so we explored our options and went to a place called Lux where we both had some wonderful pasta dishes. Brandon ended up getting something with fish, and, wonder of all wonders, he liked it! Walleye will now be another option for dinner once we get home! We left lunch and headed over to the mall, where we found a cafe selling Spaghettieis, which is a dessert made from ice cream, strawberry sauce, and white chocolate shavings to look like a bowl of spaghetti. It was delicious and I was very glad to have that experience! After ice cream, we headed back to the house to relax for a little bit. Both of us took a nap, and then we woke up to get ready to go to a birthday party at Alina’s friend Rhona’s house. Rhona and her husband Markus were hosting people for a garden party to celebrate her birthday. There was lots of delicious food and great drinks. We were encouraged to practice speaking German with other people. While we did our best, I would argue Brandon definitely did better than me. We did have a chance to meet and speak (primarily in English, but using some German) to a good number of people throughout the several hours we were at the party. Rhona and Markus also have a few chickens, so we got to see those, as well. Coming home from the party, we got to have a “true” Autobahn experience, with Peter getting up to 170 km/h (105 mph), and I felt like you could tell we were going that fast! It was quite fun! Tomorrow is a holiday in some parts of Germany, including where we are, so it is yet to be determined how we will spend the day, but it is bound to be fun! Until then, enjoy the pictures!
